| Mesothelioma is a type of cancer caused
almost exclusively by exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant
cells form in the protective lining of the body's internal organs known as the
mesothelium. Mesothelioma most commonly forms in the chest wall and
outer lining of the lungs, but can form in other areas as well.
Most people who have mesothelioma got it by working at a job where they
inhaled asbestos particles on a regular basis. Smoking can not cause
mesothelioma, although it does increase the risk factor for other cancers.
Because so much exposure to asbestos happened after the dangers were already
known to the asbestos industry, lawsuits and large settlements are common for
mesothelioma victims.
This site contains information on the symptoms, treatment, and screening for
mesothelioma, as well as an overview of the legal issues surrounding asbestos
and the mesothelioma caused by it. |
